Durban's Beachfront
Durban will be hosting the World Cup in 2010. In preparation for this event, new sports stadiums are being built and efforts are being made to improve
the tourism facilities of Durban's beachfront. Durban's Point Road district is undergoing a facelift, with luxury holiday accommodation sprouting up
near the harbour mouth. The Suncoast Casino near North Beach
provides plenty of entertainment for all ages.
Shopping in Durban
The traditional Indian culture of Durban can best be appreciated by visiting the Victoria Street Market, where everything from tobacco leaves to henna
can be purchased. Other shopping destinations in and around Durban include The Workshop in town, The Pavillion near Westville, and the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga Rocks.
Zoos and Animal Parks
Durban's newly built uShaka Marine World has a delightful dolphin show and seal show, as well as many beautiful aquariums on exhibition.
The Umgeni River Bird Park has thousands of colourful birds housed
over four acres of parkland. The park plays a major role in conserving and protected rare and endangered species. If you're heading up to Umhlanga
Rocks, be sure to visit the Natal Sharks Board which hold daily shark
dissections. The Sharks Board is responsible for maintaining the shark nets that protect Durban's beaches.
Other popular tourist attractions in Durban include the Botanical Gardens
in the Berea, The Old Fort, and the Umgeni Steam Railway that chugs
it's way between Kloof and Inchanga.
Sporting Events in Durban
Durban July: horse race / fashion extravaganza that takes place each year at
Greyville.
Mr. Price Pro: surfing competition is held every Winter at Durban's North Beach.
Comrades Marathon: runs from Durban to Pietermaritzburg attracting top runners from around the
world.
Natal Sharks Rugby: top notch entertainment at Kingsmead Stadium.
