The Garden Route of the Western Cape extends from George in the west to Tsitsikamma National Park in the east. The Knysna Lake Area lies at the centre of the Garden Route. Knysna is set within a lagoon and surrounded by the Knysna Elephant Park to the north. The abundance of forests and nature trails in the Garden Route make it favourite destination for hikers and nature lovers. The the Wilderness National Park near George with it's wetlands provides excellent birding opportunities with hundreds of species that inhabit the waterways. The Garden Route is bound to the north by the Outeniqua Nature Reserve, which is a very rugged wilderness area with some very challenging peaks. Plettenberg Bay, is well-known for it's dolphins which can best be spotted from the Robberg Nature Reserve. |
