Tourism Attractions in the KZN South Coast The coastline of Kwazulu Natal from Amanzimtoti to Port Edward is virtually one continuous beach, with plenty of self-catering accommodation to suit every budget. This tourism region (also known as the Hibiscus Coast) is a year-round favourite for beach holidays. A ride on the Banana Express steam train is a great way to explore the South Coast. Scuba Divers are blessed with a choice of two spectacular dive sites, the Protea Banks just offshore from Shelly Beach, famous for it's shark diving, and the Aliwal Shoal near Umkomaas. The Sardine Run, which takes place June/July each year, is an unforgettable diving experience, where divers can watch sharks, dolphins, seals, and other predators feast on giant "bait balls" of sardines, while Cape Gannets dive bomb the the sardines from the sky.
