Tourism Attractions in the KZN South Coast

The coastline of Kwazulu Natal from Amanzimtoti to Port Edward is virtually one continuous beach, with plenty of self-catering accommodation to suit every budget. This tourism region (also known as the Hibiscus Coast) is a year-round favourite for beach holidays. A ride on the Banana Express steam train is a great way to explore the South Coast. Scuba Divers are blessed with a choice of two spectacular dive sites, the Protea Banks just offshore from Shelly Beach, famous for it's shark diving,  and the Aliwal Shoal near Umkomaas. The Sardine Run, which takes place June/July each year, is an unforgettable diving experience, where divers can watch sharks, dolphins, seals, and other predators feast on giant "bait balls" of sardines, while Cape Gannets dive bomb the the sardines from the sky.

Nature Reserves and Reptile Parks of The South Coast
The Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve is located a few kilometres inland from Port Shepstone There is a paved road that winds down the side of the gorge, and numerous hiking trails along it's river banks. The Vernon Crooke Nature Reserve near Ixopo is well stocked with zebra, wildebeest, eland, and other large antelope. The reserve is located high up on a plateau with Zulu Villages dotting the nearby hillsides. If you're near Shelley Beach be sure to visit the Pure Venom Reptile Park. Or see over 200 Nile crocodiles on display at the Riverbend Crocodile Farm near Southbroom. Crocodile feeding time is every Sunday at 15:30. Further inland, near Kokstad, lies the Mount Currie Nature Reserve, which is popular with hikers and the birding community.

Gambling and other entertainment is available at the Wild Coast Sun Casino, located just a short drive south of Port Edward.
