The main attraction of Port Alfred is of course it's harbour along with it's residential marina with many canals. Nearby are plenty of cinemas, restaurants and shopping centres. Despite this development, Port Alfred still preserves the charm and atmosphere of an old English fishing village.
Golfers will enjoy playing the Royal Port Alfred Golf Course, located in Port Alfred and is ± 20kms from at the Fish River Sun Hotel & Country Club Resort. Designed by Gary Player, this is one of the top 18-hole golf courses in the country.
The Waters Meeting Nature Reserve / Kowie Canoe Trail
Canoes can be hired in Port Alfred for trips along the Kowie River as far as 20 km upstream to the Waters Meeting Nature Reserve. where there is a hut at Horseshoe Bend. The river is bordered by the Kowie Nature Reserve providing refuge to various aquatic birds. Several picnic sites are located along the banks. The flora is the park are dominated by grasslands and bushveld providing shelter for several small antelope and bushpig.
Port Alfred is half way between East London and Port Elizabeth, making it an ideal stop over. This, together with its water sports, hiking trails and the richness of indigenous vegetation, fauna and bird life on its river attracts holiday makers.
